SUMMARY:The Brandon McPhee Show
DESCRIPTION:Multi award winning accordionist and vocalist Brandon McPhee was 10 years old when he first took an interest in music. Influenced by this grandad he took up a three row button box and by the time he was 17 he had won many competitions. His first was at the age of 11. Later he won three times gold at the Royal National Mod and then at 17 the Jimmy Shand shield for the ‘All Scotland Senior Accordion Championship’. \nAround that time\, he took an interest in singing and had vocal tuition for a while. Now in this mid 20’s\, his voice has matured and his continued practice and dedication to music has resulted in a successful career. \nWalking on Waves\, a single he recorded with Foster and Allen\, reached number 1 in the Joyce Ramgatie Radio Airplay Chart in 2019 and also came in at number 38 in a similar chart in Tasmania and Australia of that year. \nThe Brandon McPhee Show is a mix of tunes and songs\, some his favourites and others requested by people attending his shows. This show is a mix of Scottish\, Country and Folk music with a few surprises as well. The show also features vocals from Manson Grant and Geoff McCook\, members of his five-piece band. A show not to be missed! \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

SUMMARY:Seán Keane - Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Possessor of one of Ireland’s most distinctive and unique voices\, we are delighted to welcome Seán Keane back to Tuar Ard this October to perform from his vast repertoire of songs. While his roots are in old Ireland with the Keane family tradition of Sean-nós singing\, his voice lends itself beautifully to many different genres and his skill on the flute\, whistle and pipes with which he punctuates songs make his work unforgettable. \n“There is a simple lucid clarity to Seán Keane’s singing voice which – like a laser – cuts through the cacophonous clatter and bang of a noisy world.  He is a storyteller\, whose voice is the sound of everyman; winging its way across the heaven in search of new civilisations.” Shay Healy\, songwriter\, broadcaster and journalist. \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

SUMMARY:The Ballad of Mossy Flood by Seamus O'Rourke
DESCRIPTION:Mossy Flood has a knack of going the long way around a story. In so doing\, he makes us laugh and examine ourselves in a way we haven’t done before. He might be an unsociable odd-ball with a big thick head\, but his wrestle with the everyday is pure gold. He will always land on his feet or at least somewhere near his feet… because he is Mossy Flood… and he’s from Longford. \nAfter a couple of appearances on social media a few years back\, Mossy Flood is probably Seamus O’Rourke’s most loved character… his musings have been viewed millions of times on the internet and now\, he finally has his very own show. The Ballad of Mossy Flood might just save humanity from self-destruction. \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042. \n

SUMMARY:The Organic Artist: FREE Children's Art Workshops
DESCRIPTION:This June 10th\, Tuar Ard Art Centre will hold a day of visual art workshops for children as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2023. Titled The Organic Artist\, these workshops will engage participants in fun\, creative\, artistic\, innovative and interactive art-making activities with an emphasis on sustainability through the use of natural and recycled materials. We also hope to draw the attention of children to the problems of environmental pollution in conjunction with World Ocean Day which takes place on June 8th. \nThere will be three workshops on the day catering for children aged from 3 to 15 years which will be facilitated by our friends in Art Box. The first two workshops will explore the ancient Japanese art of origami using recycled paper. The third workshop which is aimed at slightly older children\, will look at ways we can use organic material from the local environment such as fruits\, vegetables and flowers to create organic paints\, pigments and prints. \nThese workshops are kindly supported by Creative Ireland\, Westmeath Arts and Westmeath County Council. \nBooking is essential as places are limited. To book a spot call Barbara on 086 2036091.

SUMMARY:Bealtaine Movie Night - Living
DESCRIPTION:This May the Bealtaine Festival will end its three-year theme of In(ter)dependence – inspired by Ireland’s centenary as a sovereign nation and also in recognition of our interdependence with each other and the natural world. To coincide with the festival Access Cinema and the Irish Film Institute have organised a nationwide Film Tour. As part of this tour Tuar Ard is delighted to screen the acclaimed film Living on Tuesday May 9th at 8pm. \nMr Williams (Bill Nighy) is a diligent but rather dour bureaucrat\, working as a civil servant in post-war London. Overwhelmed at work and lonely at home\, his life takes a heart-breaking turn when a medical diagnosis tells him his time is short. Stunned by the news\, he abandons his usual routine. Chance encounters with a rebellious writer and a youthful colleague help Mr Williams discover a whole new perspective on both his life and work. Led by Bill Nighy’s perfect performance\, Living is a film that will leave you reflecting on the things you appreciate in your own life. \nCheck out the trailer here \nDirector: Oliver Hermanus (2022)\nRuntime: 102 mins.\nGenre: Drama\nLanguage: English\nCertificate: PG \nAdmission Free \n

SUMMARY:Movie Night - The Rose Maker
DESCRIPTION:Every garden blooms in its own season \nEve was once a champion rose grower\, but after years without a big success her business is on the verge of collapse. She reluctantly starts to consider selling to a successful competitor. In a last-ditch effort to save their livelihoods\, Eve’s secretary Rosa brings on three inexperienced workers to help out. Despite her initial hostility to the idea\, the new arrivals soon inspire Eve to give rose-designing one last shot. \nA charming and witty comedy-drama\, The Rose Maker is a crowd-pleasing tale of the fight for independence in the cutthroat world of artisan floristry. A fierce lead performance from Catherine Frot proves a particular highlight here\, with the Marguerite star once again proving herself to be one of France’s most compelling screen performers. \nDirector: Pierre Pinaud (2020)\nRuntime: 95 mins.\nGenre: Comedy\, Drama\nLanguage: French\nCertificate: TBC \nPresented with the support of the French Embassy and the Institut Français.

SUMMARY:Declan Nerney and Band Concert Tour 2023
DESCRIPTION:Declan was born in the heart of Ireland in Drumlish\, Co Longford at a unique period of time in the music scene worldwide. A revolution in rock and pop brought us The Beatles\, Elvis\, and the Rolling Stones\, while here in Ireland the magnificent showband boom was about to explode. \nAs young man growing up at that time\, Declan was being heavily influenced by these greats and indeed was getting the rare opportunity to see most of the top showbands appear in his native town of Drumlish. He would cajole his mother into seeing Joe Dolan\, Big Tom\, Philomena Begley\, The Capital Showband\, and many more perform when they appeared at the marquee at the end of May and early June. From his vantage point close to the stage\, he would absorb every move made by the guitarist in the bands\, watching his fingers slide along the strings\, hoping that one day he might be up there performing just like Dan O’Hara or Seamus McMahon. \nDeclan has gone on to have a super career that has spanned over four decades at the top of Irish Country Music winning many accolades along the way and scoring countless hits with his catalogue of trademark song. \nJoin him and his super live band with special guests Owen Mac and John Hogan for a nostalgic night of music\, song and laughter. \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.
