SUMMARY:Declan Nerney - Round and Round Concert Tour 2025
DESCRIPTION:With Special Guests John McNicholl and John Hogan \nDeclan was born in Drumlish\, Co Longford at a unique period of time in the music scene worldwide. A revolution in rock and pop brought us The Beatles\, Elvis and the Rolling Stones\, while here in Ireland the magnificent showband boom was about to explode. As young man Declan was heavily influenced by these greats and got the opportunity to see most of the top showbands appear in his native town of Drumlish. He would cajole his mother into seeing Joe Dolan\, Big Tom\, Philomena Begley\, The Capital Showband and many more perform when they appeared at the marquee at the end of May and early June. From his vantage point close to the stage\, he would absorb every move made by the guitarist in the bands\, watching fingers slide along the strings\, hoping that one day he might be up there performing. Declan went on to have a super career that has spanned over four decades at the top of Irish Country Music winning many accolades along the way and scoring countless hits with his catalogue of trademark songs. Join Declan and his super live band with special guests John McNicholl and John Hogan for a nostalgic night of music\, song and laughter on the 2025 Round and Round concert tour. \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

SUMMARY:Mary Coughlan - 40th Anniversary Tour
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED EVENT\n\n\nMary Coughlan is one of Ireland’s greatest ever jazz and blues artists and is often spoken about in the same breath as singers like Peggy Lee and Billie Holliday. A prolific artist by anyone’s standards\, Coughlan is celebrating 40 years in music this year with a nationwide tour and new music to be released throughout 2024 – the first of which is ‘More Like Brigid’\, an homage to the original Goddess of Imbolc herself\, Brigid of Kildare.\n\n\nMary Coughlan says of her inspiration for writing this song: “Brigid was fierce and courageous and always went against the norm. She had a monastery and it was for men and women! I have been called ‘hysterical’ and ‘hormonal’ over the years by various industry figures for being so indignant as to ask to be paid for my work\, things like that… So\, needless to say\, my homage to Brigid has given me a chance to air some of those frustrations that are so often experienced by women.”\n\n\nMary Coughlan is one of our greatest singers because over 40 years she has made the most grown-up\, uncompromising\, wholly personal yet utterly universal music on either side of the Atlantic about what goes on between men and women. It’s hard to believe that four decades have passed since Coughlan went into the studio to record her debut album\, Tired and Emotional.\n\n\nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

Twenty-five years after his life-changing experience\, Eoin Ryan brings the wild waves of the Coral Sea\, Australia to life in this authentic story about surviving suicide.\nEoin Ryan’s narrative unfolds as he recounts his twenty-five-year-old brush with destiny\, delving deep into the heart of his battle for survival against the spectre of suicide. Infused with the irrepressible spirit of Irish humour\, it invites audiences to join Eoin on a voyage of discovery\, where every twist and turn of fate brings them closer to the heart of his remarkable story. \nAre you ready to come on board… \nAge suitability: 16+\nWarnings: Contains distressing or potentially triggering themes\, strong language/swearing\, and mentions of suicidal ideation.\n\nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

When the situation changes and all of the women end up at his apartment on the same day\, Bernard (with help from his bewildered friend Robert) struggles to keep them from learning the truth. Will the lying lothario be able to keep up this charade\, or will a disaster occur? As they say: all’s well that ends well! \nPlease note tickets for this event are available online only from www.tuarard.ie

SUMMARY:Pat and Faye Shortt - "Knuckle Down"
DESCRIPTION:Pat and Faye Shortt return with their sell out show “Knuckle Down”. Due to popular demand\, they are returning with the final leg of the tour. The show is a collection of mad characters that won over audiences in venues throughout Ireland\, Northern Ireland and the UK. \n“Knuckle Down” shows off the incredible talent of these two performers\, as they glide seamlessly from stand up to hilarious characterisation of everyday Irish people. They have the genius of taking everyday ordinary situations and making us laugh at the mundane. Previously described as being indigenously Irish in their approach and observation of characters.  “Knuckle Down” doesn’t disappoint. Characters such as “Michael” (Pat Shortt) the hapless builder (Followed weekly on Tik Tok\, X\, Insta and Facebook by hundreds of thousands) seems to have the answer to all things that are wrong in the world and shares the advice gifted to him by his late grandmother from Tipperary. Another outrageous character is the “mother of the child” (Faye Shortt) at the school railings waiting to pick up her child PJ\, it’s not like her at all to talk bad about anyone but she just can’t help herself\, sharing her views on the school principal and her tummy tucking friend back from Turkey. \nThe sharp wit and physical comedy genius of this comedic duo will have you in pain with laughter. Don’t miss this final opportunity to catch this hilarious sell-out show before it closes. \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

SUMMARY:Indigestion by Seamus O’Rourke
DESCRIPTION:This play has been described as sensitive\, hilarious\, intelligent\, absolutely compelling and refreshingly forthright. A man\, whose name we never hear\, tells us his story of a life\, always slightly out of his control. \nThe madness of a simple rural man… a man shipped off to London at the age of 17…who goes through bouts of depression\, obesity and anger issues… finds and loses love\, comes back to Ireland to more misfortune and mayhem and yet there is HOPE. This is a story full of hope\, where laughter and tears join hands and race us through fifty years of a life\, not much different to our own. This is Seamus O’Rourke doing what he does best\, storytelling. \nBook your tickets here or phone our box office on 090 6482042.

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:★ FREE EVENT ★ \nThe May Film Tour organised by access>CINEMA and the Irish Film Institute to coincide with the Bealtaine Festival\, will come to Tuar Ard on Tuesday May 28th. This year the theme of the Bealtaine is Lust for Life\, based on Iggy Pop’s iconic punk-era song celebrating life’s dreams and ambitions \nThe May Film Tour title\, The Great Escaper is based on a true story. Led by Michael Caine’s impassioned performance\, it tells the story of Bernard Jordan who escaped from his care home to attend the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France. We would like to thanks GFD Communications for supporting the screenings of The Great Escaper. The screenings are also possible because of the support of The Arts Council of Ireland. \nIn the summer of 2014\, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines. He had staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy\, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. It was a story that captured the imagination of the world as Bernie embodied the defiant\, “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But of course\, it wasn’t the whole story. It was an inspirational but sanitised retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war. Bernie’s adventure\, spanning a mere 48 hours\, also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene (Glenda Jackson) – THE GREAT ESCAPER celebrates their enduring love but always with an eye to the lessons we might learn from the Greatest Generation. \nDirector: Oliver Parker (2023)\nRuntime: 96 mins.\nGenre: Comedy\, Romance\, War\, Drama\nLanguage: English\nCertificate: 12A

SUMMARY:Africa Day Movie Night: Aisha
DESCRIPTION:*FREE EVENT* \nAs part of Africa Day celebrations in Moate\, we will be showing AISHA\, a profoundly moving piece of cinema  that authentically depicts the quiet desperation and loneliness that those living in direct provision in Ireland can experience. \nAisha (Letitia Wright) lives at a Direct Provision Centre in a state of uncertainty; having fled Nigeria from a violent gang that murdered members of her family\, she is desperately trying to find some degree of permanency\, where she and her mother can be reunited and live without fear. As she navigates the complex legal system to seek settlement in Ireland\, she sparks an unlikely friendship with Conor (Josh O’Connor)\, a new guard at the centre. A former prisoner\, Conor’s life experience and calming presence resonate with Aisha\, allowing for a tentative romance to begin. But\, as she continues to live in a state of limbo\, the bond formed between the pair comes under threat. The product of director Frank Berry’s typically extensive research\, Aisha is a powerful critique of a bureaucratic system which compounds the trauma of those seeking refuge. \nDirector: Frank Berry (2022)\nRuntime: 94 mins.\nGenre: Drama\nLanguage: English \nCertificate: 12A \nCheck out the trailer here.

SUMMARY:Fourth Wall Laois Theatre Group presents The Country Boy by John Murphy
DESCRIPTION:Fourth Wall Laoise Theatre Group’s production of John Murphy’s play “The Country Boy” is a humorous but poignant love story that examines emigration\, the impact of dreams on reality\, and the challenges of returning home after seeking a better life abroad. \nEddie returns to Ireland with his American wife Julia intent on bringing his brother Curly to America. \nCurly is in love with the lively and beautiful Eileen but feels he must emigrate alone to make his fortune and return in a few years to marry her. \nCurly’s mother Mary Kate’s heart is breaking at the thought of him leaving\, while her husband Tom does not think time is right to hand over the farm to Curly. He does not want Eileen to “fill the house with screetchin’ childer”. \nThe empty stateroom trunk that the American couple brings serves as a powerful metaphor for the emptiness and disappointment that Eddie carries from his years away. \nEddie denigrates his wife as a “fat cow” but Julia rises to a new dignity as she becomes aware of her supportive role during Eddie’s dreams and struggles. \nWill Curly follow in Eddie’s footsteps? Will Eileen be left to wait? Will Eddie and Julia reconcile? Will Tom and Mary Kate be left with an empty nest? \nBook your tickets here or contact our box office on 090 6482042.
